when one half of the world is burning and the other is drowning, where nothing is what it once was, it’s often difficult to stay cheerful and happy. in all the wet, dark and gray, one finds all kinds of strategies to keep the mind sane and make time go faster till the light returns. recalling memories from travels, vacations and city hops. here a few images from a day in paris, one sunny day in may, a few years back.

people get out of their apartments and enjoy winters ending: sitting outside, meet with other people, without thick winter clothing, hats and gloves. lovers meet along the seine, in parks and squares as in countless songs and films. street music, mime artists, magicians, flea markets, street painters or puppet theaters: you find it all where people meet. Of course: all pickpockets, cheaters and scammers are also where people are, like everywhere. so watch yourself and your bag.
moving around the city with such a magnificent history is in itself incredibly satisfying. the beautiful gardens, palaces, museums, clubs and concert spots, throughout the various neighborhoods: the parisians are active everywhere, making their city one of the world’s most magnificent. such a day in paris can turn into a therapeutic experience during dark winter days. even if it’s just in the mind.
