Spinning Carousel at Tivoli in Copenhagen, December 2013

The old Swing – Carousel at Tivoli Gardens dates all the way back to 1907 and is Tivoli Gardens very first Swing-Carousel. It is used for both the Halloween- and the Christmas opening but is not on site during the summer season.

Tivoli Gardens is one of the greatest attractions in Copenhagen – if not in whole Scandinavia – and one of the world’s best known and oldest amusement parks. Tivoli Gardens was founded in 1843. The oldest buildings in the garden are the head-entry portal and Pantomime Theater from 1874. At the beginning, the amusement park was called “Tivoli & Vauxhall”. King Christian VIII  gave founder Georg Carstensen a five-year license to establish Tivoli Gardens on 16 acres of land. Tivoli Gardens was a great success from the very start, with a variety of attractions. Restaurants, Concerts, Flower Gardens and many amusement rides. In the evening the park was illuminated. At closing time fireworks lit up the gardens and parts of the city as a contribution to the many friends and visitors.
